god as an "object of the mind"

A man can judge only in a human way. For example, when a man ascribes a face to You, he does not seek it outside the human species (…) Similarly, if a lion were to ascribe to You a face, he would judge it to be only lionlike; an ox would judge it to be only oxlike; and an eagle would judge it to be only eaglelike.
